Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council letter to House Ways and Means Committee: IRS Requires New Leadership that Protects Taxpayers Rights & Promotes Service

The past several years have been shaky for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).  A leak of taxpayer data that was once thought to impact a few hundred taxpayers turned out to be hundreds of thousands and a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report found that IRS employees have been illegally accessing private taxpayer information for decades. A pattern of substandard taxpayer service, the abuse of taxpayer data, and unfair mistreatment of certain taxpayers or groups are why the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) expressed concern about the massive windfall the IRS would receive through President Biden’s “Inflation Reduction Act.”
